Meet Zoe Ho, Registered Clinical Counsellor and Somatic Therapist.

Hi, my name is Zoe Ho (she/her), I am a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) and founder of Avalo Therapy + Wellness. As well, I have over ten year’s experience in yoga and somatic therapy.

I am a first-generation immigrant, storyteller and artist. I have lived in Asia, Vancouver and Canada’s Arctic, where I worked to bring powerful Indigenous voices to print and broadcast media.

I was privileged to interview Inuvialuit (Inuit) elders, leaders, and youth. This taught me deep empathy, listening, and cultural respect. It propelled my journey to become a somatic therapist, followed by a master’s in Counselling Psychology at Yorkville University. In between, I survived cancer, divorce, and marginalization trauma.

While life has certainly been a wild ride, I am grateful for the resilience I have gained, along with the healing tools of embodiment, mindfulness, and self-compassion. I now infuse these ingredients into my evidence-based work with clients.

Each healing journey is unique. I am deeply moved to walk alongside as an ally and guide, supporting clients to reclaim their sense of joy, identity and direction.

I provide trauma-informed somatic therapy for life/relationship transitions, cancer, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC concerns, with a focus on attachment issues, anxiety, and grief.

I am an advocate for creativity and sex-positivity, and often use expressive arts techniques to help clients liberate their self-expression.

Outside of private practice, I am an experienced facilitator of embodied-mindfulness and psychoeducation workshops for national cancer support organizations. This includes corporate clients such as Gallup Inc., and Google Asia.

The Story of Avalo

Avalokiteshvara in Kannon form.

Japan,

Modern compassion-based therapy draws from mindfulness traditions, which since ancient times have helped us to savour the joys of life, and navigate the challenges of being human.

‘Avalo’ is inspired by ‘Avalokiteshvara’, the Sanskrit name of a bodhisattva who listens and helps with deep compassion and skill. Like Avalokiteshvara, we are dedicated to help you feel truly seen, heard, and held. In naming our practice Avalo Therapy + Wellness, we acknowledge the roots of the healing practices we now share to enhance your experience of healing with mindfulness, presence and self-compassion.

FUN FACT: Avalokiteshvara is highly adaptable, acquiring new qualities, robes, and names to skillfully help in infinite circumstances. They are gender fluid and culturally responsive! You might have heard their other names: Guanyin (China), Kannon (Japan), Karunamaya (Nepal), and Chenrezig (Tibet).
