Frequently Asked Questions

What should I expect in a first session of therapy?
You will be met with warmth, respect, and non-judgement. You will feel supported to explore your lived experiences, thoughts, and feelings. Collaboratively, we will identify your needs, therapy goals and challenges. You can share as much or as little as you are comfortable during the intake conversation. We will discuss self-care and ways to attune to your body. This includes ways to regulate your nervous system and challenging emotions.
What therapy methods do you use?
I blend holistic and scientific modalities to meet your unique needs. These include:
♦ Mindfulness-based Self-Compassion
♦ Internal Family Systems
♦ Somatic Therapy
♦ EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
♦ Trauma Informed Stabilization Treatment
♦ CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy)
♦ EFT (Emotionally Focused Therapy)
Why would somatic therapy work for me?
Many of us know what choices are best for ourselves, and yet are unable to take action. Negative coping beliefs can manifest as anxiety or fear symptoms in the body. These beliefs can originate from family, cultural and social conditioning. When we are in a negative feedback loop, we can feel “stuck in our heads”. Somatic therapy promotes embodiment to help to harmonize the thinking mind with the emotional body. This promotes embodied safety, which can relief suffering and promote trauma processing.
Is counselling confidential?
Counselling sessions and records are confidential and will not be disclosed without your consent.
There are, however, mandated limits to confidentiality if there is:
-
Imminent risk of you harming yourself or others
-
when there is suspicion or disclosure of abuse/neglect of a child
-
when client records are subpoenaed by court order
What are your fees and how is payment processed?
Fees are as noted on our booking page. We offer free 15 minute consultations, as well as sliding scale rates to support those with financial needs. Standard and Generous rates help to support our ability to provide access to therapy for those facing barriers.
All scheduling and payments are made through our secured booking system. Credit card information is required, and payments for sessions will be processed with at the beginning of each session.
What is your cancellation policy?
Your appointment time is reserved just for you. We require 24 hours notice for any cancellations or changes to your appointment. Patients who provide less than 24 hours notice, or miss their appointment, will be charged a cancellation fee of the full session rate. Late arrival of 15 minutes or more will result in a cancellation and considered a no show with the same policy applied.
We are unable to make any exceptions to this policy for any reason. Thank you for understanding.
Is counselling covered by my extended healthcare insurance?
Many extended health care benefit programs include coverage for sessions with Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC) and Certified Canadian Counsellors (CCC). To make sure you’re eligible for reimbursement, reach out to your insurance provider and inquire about their policies for the counsellor you plan to work with. It’s always a good idea to check before your first appointment.
After each session, you’ll receive an official receipt that you can submit for reimbursement. Please note that we do not provide direct billing services.
Where are you accepting new clients?
As the therapy services I provide are online, I am able to accept yoga/ holistic therapy clients from all over the world.
For counselling/ psychotherapy clients, I am licensed as a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)/ Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC). This allows me to accept clients from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Newfoundland and Labrador, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Ontario, Saskatchewan and Yukon.
